A shocking moment captured in a 15-second cell phone video shows a 13-year-old girl restraining a classmate and biting her on the neck inside a bathroom at East Hartford Middle School.

“It just It started off, because we were kind of close, but then we stopped being friends and then they started like creating rumors about me,” the eight-grader student said.

Samara Gonzalez says her daughter came home with a bruise around her neck. While it's unclear what led up to the incident, Gonzalez claims the girl in the video, along with another student, had bullied her daughter in the past, leaving her depressed and humiliated.

“Like three weeks ago, she told me that they were threatening her again and wanted to fight her again,” said Gonzalez. “So I got in my car went to the school but when i got to school, I saw that she got bite in her neck”.

According to Gonzalez, this is not an isolated event. She says the bullying started in December and continued twice in March. She decided to go public with the video on Wednesday, alleging that school officials have failed to protect her daughter despite multiple reports.

“When we got to the school, the principal was dismissive about the situation. He didn't want to deal with it. He said that it was a normal fight. And when I told him about the bite on her neck, he said that that was a normal part of the fight. He said he wasnt going to do nothing because she' fought back, she defended herself.” Gonzalez said “The security staff, they laugh at us . and they said that they can do nothing.”

Boceto Media reached out to the East Hartford Board of Education. In an email, a spokesperson stated:

"We thoroughly investigate all situations to ensure that all information is accurate and that students are protected. Our team is still investigating the details of this situation and is working with the family and the appropriate authorities."

But Gonzalez said the superintendent’s office did not hear her pleas.

“We went to the superintendent office, and they said they can take the letter, because it was a process that we had to meet, do a meeting in school, and some process. And the lady she was very rude about it.”

The alleged bullying has not been confined to school grounds; it has also extended to social media.

“They just kept like attacking me on social media, or like going up to me in person, or talking to my friends about things that weren't true.” The eight-grader student said. “ And I don't really do anything back until they like find my number, or like dad meets a group chats and talk.”

Natalie Feliz, known as Tiaa Candy, a children's entertainer in Danbury, highlights the rise of bullying, worsened by social media. She works to raise awareness and prevent it among children.

“So using social media and bullying through the internet or sending pictures, funny pictures, comments, targeting people, labeling them in such a way, has been very impactful in the mental health of the kids. We started with the campaign as a “not bullying be nice”, and we used entertainment, the music, dancing and singing as a vehicle to bring bowling awareness.”

Gonzalez is calling on the school to hold bullies accountable and implement stronger preventative measures to ensure student safety. She says she is considering hiring an attorney and suing the district for its lack of prompt action.
